Hangover Home Remedies

This makes a fun 21st birthday gift idea!  Simply print off the list of hangover home remedies and collect items from each category.  We like wrapping each item in a little tissue paper and placing them in a big bag.  If you do it right, some items can bring a little redness to their cheeks!  FYI, some of the items listed come in small or slim sizes!  😉  Another fun item to add to the bag is a “personal BAT” (blood alcohol tester).  It’s a fun way to see how your celebration is progressing.  It can also be used to know when its time to get an Uber!!  😉  Have fun with it and add or subtract items, as you see fit.

Headache Home Remedies

Bananas
Bananas are your best friend! While you were drunk and peeing like a racehorse, lots of potassium drained from your body. Eating a banana bursting with potassium will give you some giddy-up and go. All you have to do is peel and eat.

Sport Drinks
Sports drinks are a good way to replace fluids as well as electrolytes and glucose.

Ice
Put an ice compress on your aching head. Place crushed ice in a plastic bag, wrap in a dry towel and apply it to where it hurts. Or just rinse a washcloth under cold water, place it on your forehead and rest.

Water
Other than time, drinking water is the best cure for a hangover. Dehydration does a doozy on your body and causes much of the discomfort associated with a hangover. Stick to water, be it tap water, bottled or carbonated. Drink more than eight glasses a day while recovering.

Food
-Eat mineral rich food like pickles or canned fish. In Poland, drinking pickle juice is a common remedy.
-Sit back and nibble on some saltine crackers.
-The thing that worked for me was to drink some green tea and eat a can of spaghetti-O’s… as crazy as it sounds it worked the best for me. I didn’t want to eat anything and that was the only thing that I could manage to eat. As for the green tea, normally having a hangover makes you really thirsty and green tea has antioxidants in it so it really helps!

? (Not recommended by us!)
In Ireland, it was said that the cure for a hangover is to bury the ailing person up to their
neck in moist river sand.

Alka Seltzer Morning Relief
One reader says that it’s all that he and his wife have found that really works for them. He stumbled across this “cure” while his wife was still suffering after two days, within 15 minutes after taking the Alka Seltzer she was fine.

Exercise
A couple of activities to partake in for your hangover are a warm bath to calm your mind and if you are up for it and have a willing partner… SEX! During sexual intercourse, endorphins are released that will give you a little hangover break and a chance to work off some of last night’s liquor. If sex isn’t an option, any exercise you can do will also help push out toxins and get your circulation going — great for your hangover!

Avoid caffeine
A weak cup of coffee may be okay but a lot of caffeine will continue to dehydrate you, the opposite of what you want right now.

Sleep
Rest is your best friend at this point to give your body a recover. It is best to stay in bed so call into work if you have to, tell them you have the stomach flu. You will sound so horrible on the phone they may believe you (unless they saw you at the bar, not a good idea then).

More alcohol
Although “hair of the dog” is not recommended for frequent use, a drink in the morning, of the same thing that caused the hangover in the first place, will make you feel better and let you get through your day.

Over-the-counter painkillers
Some remedies suggest having a couple of pills before drinking while others suggest popping a couple of pills before you hit the bed. What you must remember is that alcohol does not always mix well with drugs and such experiments can lead to long-term damage to your organs.
